Hi Everyone,

My name is Dr. Efe Aganbi. Have just registered on this site as I am interested in finding out more about the Nigerian Bioscience community - current research areas, techniques etc and of course make contributions.

My specialist areas are Environmental Microbiology and Molecular Biology. Would welcome questions/information from anyone about in these areas, expecially bioremediation and bioactive compounds from marine microorganisms.

Whoo! that's plenty for a first write-up! Look forward to meeting you all.

Thanks Ufumes, your site still needs a lot of work in terms of ready information and resources but I like the idea behind its creation - so kuddos!

Can I ask what the hot areas are currently in Nigeria with regards to research in Biosciences?

Thanks for your comment about nigerianbioscientist.com, i agree with you, there is still more to be done.

The recent bioresearch focus of most Nigerian Bioscientists are in the area of drug discoveries especially in tropical related diseases. Many bioscience papers in nigeria are more of drug related inquires, this may be attributed to our rich endowments of medicinal tropical plants. More Nigerian Bioscientist are also focusing their attentions in molecular biology and genetic engineering especially in the development of better crop varieties and transgenic animals to serve as models of our tropical related diseases. In fact, different Bioscientist in various bioscience discipline in Nigeria are putting serious efforts in their various disciplines to come up with something, you know its more of self financed projects.
